MTA Statewide Theatre Festival

The Annual Statewide theatre festival is held in January and moves around the state in order to provide different areas of the state with the opportunity to host the festival. The festival brings to the local communities an abundance of theatre opportunities that showcase some of the best theatre in Mississippi. The MTA statewide festival consists of 6 festivals wrapped in one weekend.

The festival consists of the:

  • Community Theatre Festival
  • Secondary Festival
  • 10-Minute Play Festival
  • Individual Events Festival
  • College/University Auditions
  • Theatre for Youth Festival

The theatres competing during the Secondary Festival pre-qualify for the event during the December regional festivals held at the University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi State University. The top three winners from each of the regions attends the MTA statewide festival.

Theatres or communities interested in hosting an MTA Festival can review the checklist and host requirements by downloading this document.

  • Lighting Information:

USM will provide SIX focus areas (three DS and three US) within the playing space outlined on the ground plan.  The lighting plot shows the approximate location and size of these focus areas.

Each of these focus areas will have three instruments pointed at it...two from the front (one with a warm gel like abmer, one with a cool gel like lavendar) and one from above and slightly back.  The board will be set up to individually control each one of these lights.  Therefore, there will be 18 sliders to be manipulated by the board operator.  Plus there will still be follow spots (if needed).
